The Institution Sister Nivedita Nursing Academy was established in 2018, with  the  following  Visions.

  1. Women`s education and training with the aim to inculcate professional skill enhancement among the willing women students having affinity towards health education. T
  2. To meet the demands of the society through the supply of skilled and professionally equipped women to become the future nurses and serve the patient with full dedication and commitments.
  3. To educate them the philosophy of service to the society. Hence, the academy aims to extend service to the nation by delivering a group of trained nurses as the dedicated future generation women  nurses  motivated  to  the patients` wellbeing .
  4. To come under their purview of the professional services offered to them.

Inspired by the dream of a renowned Physician and an eminent freedom fighter Dr. Nani Guha, the Founding Secretary of The Calcutta Heart Clinic and Hospital Society, a non-commercial Socio Medical Organisation registered in 1975, under the West Bengal Society’s Registration Act 1961 `The Calcutta Heart Clinic and Hospital Society` started its journey towards extending service to the people of the locality at first and the people of the surrounding states and the countries all over.

Since the medical services to the people cannot be fulfilled without the involvement of skilled grass root service provider to the medical fraternity `The   Sister  Nivedita  Nursing Academy’ became the answer to the modalities of the services to be provided to the people needing  Medical backup.  The  Vision of  ‘Sister Nivedita  Nursing Academy`, therefore  aims  to grow up as a  human friendly Institution of the Calcutta Heart Clinic and Hospital Society.

Dedicated by the mission of `The Calcutta Heart Clinic and Hospital Society’, Sister Nivedita Nursing Academy aimed to empower women through professional education so that, they are recognised as  renowned nurses of the country. Hence the Mission of the Institution is to offer opportunities to the young women the degree on General Nursing and Midwifery courses as an essential prerequisite for offering services to the patients as a skilled hospital personnel.

  • To prepare nurses with sound educational program so that they can work efficiently and  impart  their responsibility as  the health care team .
  • To carry out academic program by the faculties in high dedication to help the students to develop the ability to cooperate and coordinate with the Hospital health team too.
  • To help them to acquire personal as well as professional skill with the aim  to contribute to the development of the society .To look to the professional as well as technical achievement in the field of learning and to carry the same to the field in the form of patient  care services.

Philosophy of “Sister Nivedita Nursing Academy”

The academy believes that –

  • The orientation of modern nursing is holistic care which includes therapeutic, educative as well as a dynamic process in meeting the health needs of the Individual, Family and the Community.
  • The nurses should be equipped with advanced practice in Nursing and Midwifery to play an integrated role by generating and applying innovative care to the patients in Hospital as well as in the Community at large.
  • The Philosophy of the Academy is to prepare the Nurses with effective communication and leadership skills in the inter-professional field to promote positive changes in the hospital to provide quality care and services to the patients.

Objectives of “Sister Nivedita Nursing Academy”

The nursing education aims to produce trained, competent nurses having high moral and ethical standard which will fulfil the demand of high standards of nursing in the hospital as well as in the community at large.

The trained nurses will be able to play an integral part in fulfilling the objectives of the society for providing all sorts of comprehensive medical care and services to the needy and under privileged people at minimum possible cost as well as rendering various Socio-medical Community services in slum areas at free of cost along with Medical Camps in Flood and other disaster affected areas.

On the other hand, the course will enhance proper utilization of human resource along with employment generation and women empowerment, also to put special emphasis on recruitment of girls from the lower socio-economic background.

 

Details of Admission

Course – General Nursing Midwifery (3 Years)

For the session 2022-2025

Admission Criteria

  • Education
    • Passed Higher Secondary Examination (10 + 2) from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education OR
    • Passed Equivalent Examination (10 + 2) from Any recognized Council / Board AND
    • Rank Holder in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination
  • Age Limit
    • As per the guideline of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board
  • Citizenship & Residence
    • Must be a permanent resident of  West Bengal for at least uninterruptedly for at least five years till 31.12.2020. (As per the guideline of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board)
  • The candidate must be able to read, write and express in English and Bengali.
  • Candidate should be medically fit (Physically fit and mentally alert)
  • Only female candidates can apply for the Course
    • Total Course is fully residential
    • The students shall be admitted once in a year.
  • Course Duration: 3 Years (including 6 months Internship)
    • 1st year             :  52 weeks
    • 2nd  year           :  52 weeks
    • 3rd  year  Part I :  26 weeks        
    • 3rd  year  Part II :  26 weeks
  • Method of Selection
    • Selection will be done as per the norms of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board.
  • Documents required at the time of admission:
    • Recent coloured Passport Size photo
    •  Mark sheet of H.S/Equivalent Examination (Admission of the candidate will be cancelled, in case of fake Mark sheet / Age-proof document detected on verification from concerned Council/ Board)
    • Age Proof Documents are: Admit Card / Certificate of Madhyamik Examination / Mark sheet of the Examination Board/Council in case of others (CBSE/ ICSE)
    • Residential/Domicile Certificate issued only by a BDO of local Block/Government Gazetted Officer of the concerned District where the candidate resides/ Sabhadhipati of local Zilla Parisad/ Sabhapati of local Panchayet Samiti/ Prodhan of local Gram Panchayet/Local M.P./Local M.L.A./Mayor or Councillor of local Municipal Corporation/Chairman of local Municipality/Ward Councillor of local Municipality.
    • Valid certificates for SC/ST/OBC candidates (As per the guideline of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board)
    • Valid document as Proof of Widow/ Divorcee.
  • Examination System
    • At the end of each Academic Year, Annual Examination will be conducted by West Bengal Nursing Council.
    • Student has to obtain 50% as Pass Marks in all Theory/Practical Papers (External & Internal).
    • Class Test / Periodical Test / Test Examination of both Theory and Practical Papers of all the Subjects will be done as per the Schedule made by the Institution following guideline of Council. The Schedule may be changed depending on the circumstances
    • The Student will get maximum 6 (six) years to complete the course, in case of failure in examination.
  • Eligibility for Examination
    • Candidate will be eligible for the Council Examination after recommendation of the Head of the Institute if
      • She has completed the required Hours of Classes and Clinical Experiences as per syllabus
      • Her conduct is satisfactory
  • Registration under Indian Nursing Council/ West Bengal Nursing Council
    • The Student will be recommended for Final Registration in Indian Nursing Council and State Nursing Council (West Bengal Nursing Council) as “Registered Nurse Midwife” after successful completion of the Course along with Internship.
    • The Student has to complete her recommended Clinical Experiences before leaving the Institution. The Diploma will not be awarded to the Student till she completes her requirement.
  • Rules and Regulations of the Institution
    • 100% attendance is mandatory in both Theory and Practical Papers of all the Subjects along  with Clinical and Field Experiences as mentioned in the syllabus of Indian Nursing Council.
    • Wearing of the recommended Uniform of Institute is mandatory during Class/ Clinical Hours
    • Students are not allowed to meet the Guardians/ Relatives/ Outsiders during working hours
    • Students are not allowed to carry a Mobile Phone during Class/ Clinical Hours
    • Android Phones are allowed to the Students for the Period of Online classes and Study Hrs.
    • In case of gross misconduct of the Student, she may be Detained/ Terminated from the ongoing Course at any time during the Academic Year as per decision of the Management.
      • In such case, Fees already submitted is not refundable.

RAGGING IS A PUNISHABLE OFFENCE.

  • Ragging to anyone/ anywhere is strictly prohibited.
  • if any incidence of ragging takes place, it should be reported immediately to the

Anti-Ragging Committee, displayed in Bulletin Boards of Class Rooms/ Hostel and other places

  • If anyone detected for the Act of Ragging, will not be able to continue the course.
  • Students must abide by the Rules & Regulations of the Institution and the Hostel.
