Certificate course in Basic Intensive Care Medicine was introduced by The Calcutta Heart Clinic and Hospital Society in 2012 for the initiation of junior doctors to intensive care units. It is an eight week course that helps the participants to acquire the correct approach to critical care medicine. It also helps in the preparation for FCCS and MRCP. The training consists of lecture classes, bedside teaching, procedure training and simulation. Besides the formal training hours, the trainees are allowed in the ICU to see clinical cases and observe procedures. Promising candidates are absorbed internally as per vacancy.
