While First Aid and resuscitation training is mandatory not only for the medical fraternity but also for laymen abroad, medical education in our country has not recognized its importance till date. It is unfortunate that there is no scope for theoretical and practical training for the same in India. The Calcutta Heart Clinic and Hospital Society, in an effort to fill this void, introduced ‘REVIVE’- a training course in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation for medical and dental students. The two-day course encompasses basic first aid for medical conditions, physical injuries, animal- related injuries and psychological trauma and a hands-on training session on basic life support for CPR. This course helps build confidence in the students to respond to life-threatening emergencies with appropriate action.
